Focus training

Tap the time to change it

Pick a duration and press Start. The screen turns into a single dot and nothing else: no clock, no buttons, no notifications. Your only job is to keep looking at it until the chime.

Your mind will wander. That's the point. Each time you notice it drifting, press Space or tap the screen once, then bring your attention back to the dot. Noticing and returning is the exercise. At the end you see your longest unbroken stretch, the number to grow over the weeks.

Start with one to five minutes. When a session feels easy, go longer. Your sessions are kept in this browser so you can see how many minutes you've practised today.

Questions

Why a dot?

A single point gives your eyes and attention one place to rest. With nothing else on the screen there's nothing to react to, so you notice quickly when your thoughts pull you away. It's the same idea as candle gazing (trataka) or fixing your eyes on one spot in meditation.

Why can't I see the time left?

Watching a countdown becomes a distraction of its own. Without it you can't bargain with the clock. The session ends with a soft chime, so you don't need to check.

What counts as my mind wandering?

Any moment you realise you were thinking about something else, planning, replaying a conversation or reaching for your phone. Tap once when you catch it. Switching to another tab or app counts too. A high count isn't failure: every tap is a moment you noticed and came back.

How long should a session be?

Begin with one to five minutes a day. Short and regular beats long and rare. Move up to 10, 15 or 25 minutes when the shorter ones feel calm.

How do I stop early?

Press Esc on a keyboard, or press and hold the screen for about a second on a phone. You'll see how long you lasted.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, no ads and nothing to install. Everything runs in your browser.
